Wind rows are a very common landscape feature in the west. Their purpose is very simple...keep the snow out of any places you don't want it. The snow then makes swirls and drifts behind the wind rows instead of in important places, like roads! The cable construction of this snug fitting beanie look just like the swirling snow piles.
Construction
Wind rows beanie is snug fitting and features two different sets of cables throughout the body, and a double thick ribbed brim for extra warmth. Worked from the bottom up in the round, this beanie is perfect if you have ever wanted to try knitting cables or are looking for an easy, yet satisfying, cable project.
This pattern has been written for Selah Yarn Co.'s 100% alpaca worsted weight yarn (8-9 wpi), but would be perfect for any heavy worsted/aran weight yarn you have. Available in three different sizes, as well as modifications for a single layer brim and a slouchy fit. The wind rows beanie is your perfect grab and go winter accessory.
Materials Required
-200 Yards heavy worsted/aran weight (all samples were made using Selah Yarn Co sport which can be purchased here)
-US5 / 3.75mm 16" circular needle (or your preferred needle for working in the round) or size needed to obtain gauge.
-US7 / 4.5mm 16" circular needle (or your preferred needle set up for working in the round) or size needed to obtain gauge.
-US7 / 4.5mm DPNs and/or long circular for magic loop, or size needed to obtain gauge.
-stitch markers/darning needle/cable needle
Sizing
Available in sizes Child (Adult Medium, Adult Large), to be worn with approximately 5"-6" (13cm -15cm) negative ease.
A. Finished Circumference:
14 (16, 18)" / 36 (40, 46) cm
B. Finished Height (brim to crown):
7 (8, 8)" / 18 (20, 20) cm
